Burgundy Wine and 10th Century Cluny Architecture

From Roanne, go along to Pouilly sous Charlieu then take D487 to Charlieu. Take D4 and D83 to Chauffailles, D16 to Col de la Cepee, take D66 and turn left along D43 and near le Sordet turn right onto D987 and continue onto Aigueperse. Follow to Aigueperse, D987 to Matour, Trambly, Brandon, D987 to Cluny.
 

Cluny

Famous Abbey and medieval village

From Cluny go east along D15 to Donzy-Le-Petuis, then D117 to Massilly. Turn right onto Taize, to visit the famous international ecumenical youth centre. Take D981 to see Château de Cormatin.

Then D981 to Château de Sercy. Drive through the Maconnais vineyards. Continue along D981 to Buxy, Givry Chagny. After Chagny take N74 to Mersault, then D74 to Beaune.

Beaune

Famous for its Burgundy wines at the fascinating Hospices de Beaune with its superb Burgundy style roof. The tourist office is opposite the Hospices.

Stay overnight in Beaune and visit the countryside & vineyards. Circuit: starting from Clos de Vougeot on D74 go to Nuits St. Georges, then take D25 to Bruant, D18 to Pont d'Ouche, D18A to panoramic, medieval village of Chateauneuf. Go down the hill through Vandnesse en Auxois, take D977 to Commarin. Visit Chateau de Commarin. Then take D33B to Bussiere sous Ouche. Follow D33 along the canal to Pont de Pany, D905 to Velars sous Ouche, then right onto D108 direction Marsannay-la-Cote. Take the "Route des Grands Crus" D122 to Gevrey-Chambertin  and then return to Beaune.

From Beaune take the D74  through Mersault N70 to Montcault les Mines then N70 to Paray le Monial.

Paray le Monial

With its famous Romanesque church and pilgrimage centre. South along D34 through Poisson, D10 to Anzy le Duc.

Anzy le Duc

With its romanesque church and superb acoustics, D10 onto Marcigny.

Marcigny

Middle age village with biggest market in the area on Monday mornings. From Marcigny go south along D982 through Pouilly sous Charlieu to Roanne.
