G - French & Gourmet excursions

French course and gourmet excursionThis course is available on those weeks with a letter "G" on our calendar and will take place if a minimum of 2 participants enroll. Check availability for "G" Course on our courses calendar.

Intermediate or advanced French level more appropriate to follow explanations on-site.

This course is designed for those who want to strengthen their French but also explore the terroir of the Loire by visiting traditional producers of local gastronomic specialties. Tastings are included in the visits. Additional purchases of regional products can be made on-site.

All language classes are taught by professional, native French speaking tutors and group classes have a maximum of 6 per class.

During the afternoon, participants will be taken to different epicurean workshops or establishments with a staff member for a tour of the premises, tastings and an opportunity to talk with the owners or staff. All visits will be held in French but we will organize a discreet translation if necessary. Also included in the week, a lunch at a gastronomic château restaurant!

Mon-Fri 9:15am-12:15pm (group French class) + 4 afternoon visits on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday *

Monday : Visit and tasting at Distillerie Crozet Frères in Thizy.
Syrups and liquors produced in a traditional distillery since 1875.

Tuesday : Visit and tasting at the chocolate workshop “Au Chocolat etc” in Saint-Symphorien-de-Lay. Traditional, independent chocolate maker, Nicolas Piot, established his confectionary at the family farm.
Hand-crafted chocolates and confectionary since 2008.

Thursday : Lunch at the gastronomic restaurant Château de Champlong + Cheese and Wine pairing at Fromagerie Mons in Halles Diderot, Roanne. Fromagerie Mons has been established as a family business since 1960. The owner holds the distinction of Meilleur Ouvrier de France since 2000.
Creative, gastronomic lunch in a stunning château setting / Cheese tasting and introduction to the different families of cheese at the Epicerie de Mons shop.

Friday : Visit and Tasting at Brasserie La Germanoise in Saint-Germain-Laval operated by Pierre Girard and Olivier Sautereau.
Traditional brewery since 2014, instituting a new concept of beer without bitterness.

*Last minute changes can occur depending on producers’ availability and time of the year

Amounts in brackets represent the deposit required. On-site : At the Villa Beaulieu, Off-site : For a more economical option, you can stay with a host family in the neighborhood. This off-site accomodation is a short walk from the Villa Beaulieu (15mn on foot maximum). Breakfast is taken with the host family, while lunches and dinners are shared with other guests and instructors at the Villa Beaulieu.

My gourmet week at École des Trois Ponts was just what I needed to kick-start my dormant and underused French language skills. Classroom time was well-organized and my instructor managed to cover a huge amount of ground in a fun, engaging way. The afternoons spent meeting local food producers were interesting - and their products delicious! - and I really appreciated the structured opportunity to practice my language skills with real people in a relaxed and supportive way. And the immersion environment at the school helped me get my brain in French mode. I spent a day in Lyon on either side of the course and I really noticed a difference in my confidence with the language at the end of the week. I'm looking forward to returning one day, perhaps for longer!

I really enjoyed my week of French and Gourmet excursions at Ecole des Trois Ponts. I learned a lot, thanks to Valerie’s excellent teaching. The accommodation and food were excellent (thanks Jean-Paul!). The Gourmet excursions were extremely interesting, informative and lots of fun. We went to an old syrup making distillery, chocolate maker and artisanal brewery and met with cheese maker Herve Mons, a “Meilleur Ouvrier de France” in his market store for a tasting. Also, I should mention the delicious lunch at a nearby restaurant! I highly recommend this program for those at an intermediate level of French language.

Congratulations on another innovative program at the Ecole des 3 Ponts .I thoroughly enjoyed the Gourmet Excursions Program ( Escapades Gourmandes) in April.  What better way is there to improve your French than to interact with the artisans in the region who make liqueurs, chocolates, cheese, and beer?  Not to mention the wonderful gourmet restaurant in a lovely chateau.  Last year I participated in the French & Countryside Walks program. I can certainly say that both programs are first rate.

I have attended classes at L’Ecole de Trois Ponts four times. I have always found the instruction to be at a very high level.   This year, I also signed up for the Escapade Gourmand.  Attending classes in French in the morning and visiting small artisanal producers of cheese, wine and chocolate in the afternoons was a great way to spend a week in France.   All the explanations during the excursions were done in French so we were provided an additional opportunity to practice with native speakers while learning about their craft and sampling their products!
